Given that we are still getting acquainted, I thought a little more about my background and areas of interests would be helpful. If you are interested in learning and engaging about these areas please click the Subscribe button.
Over the course of my 40+ years working in Silicon Valley, Austin, and Chicago, I have remained fascinated by technology and always remained focused on how it can be used to improve life quality and business effectiveness. My focus remains on the personal impact of technology and I work hard to always consider the human perspective.
AS AN AUTHOR, my published book topics include entrepreneurship, personal finance, mergers and acquisition, and various software technologies which were published through Pearson and John Wiley and Sons, and others. “Getting Through” (ISBN: 97989879550807) is my most recent book. It is the first of three organizational communication books that will be published by my imprint, ProChango Publishing. The second and third books will be released in 2024 and you will get a preview of them here as they are written. A full listing of my 20 or so books is at my website www.edpaulson.com.
AS A DEPAUL UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR, it is my pleasure to teach and learn about risk management, sales and marketing management, leadership, communication, adult learning, instructional design and delivery, and research methods. My students are working professionals (usually over 30) who apply the class concepts immediately at work and give me feedback about what does or does not work. They keep me on my toes and it is an honor to continually learn from them.
THE ENGINEER IN ME is captivated by how much technology intersects with our business and personal lives. My guess is that as a former Professional Engineer with a BS in Electronic Engineering, an MS in Structural Engineering, and a PhD in Technology Management (2008) I qualify as a geek. I was involved with the original IBM PC/XT launch in 1983 as the Seagate Technology National Account Representative to IBM. We put the first hard drive in a desktop computer, and everyone thought it revolutionary. The drive’s dimensions were about 6”x3”x7” and held 10MB of data which we thought was HUGE! We were sure we would never fill it up. There is a 512 GB USB thumb drive sitting on my desk that costs less than $40. This is nothing short of a technological miracle to me!
Don’t get me started on how fascinating it is to be able to seamlessly click on a server in Asia and a few seconds later be on a server in England … oh yeah … from my phone! My newest area of interest is quantum computing and it appears that the Chicagoland Area may become a hub for development in this area, which is pretty exciting. I may write on this, or may not, or do both. ;-)
PERSONALLY, I am an active investor (technical trading mostly), camper, traveler, and marginal gardener although I had more luck than usual this year with sunflowers. Some of these topics may pop up and questions related to these topics are totally welcome!
I hope that this space becomes a place where we get together to discuss things long into the future. Thank you for taking a few minutes to check out my Substack page and I promise to work hard to make your trust in my well placed.
