Ouch...those stats are painful! I think our "breakdown" in communication stems from our breakdown in effectively connecting with people. As we've become increasingly "connected" through social media and the internet I think we've become increasingly disconnected from people as people. Perhaps this disconnect is playing out as a lack of empathy. Without empathy it's virtually impossible to communicate well. This article gave me lots to think about. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment and yes ... it is a lot for all of us to think about. Let's face it ... without people working and communicating with other people little would get done. It is just so important to never forget that there is a person on the other side of a communication. Not a slot or an email address. I look forward to reading your work and thanks for joining us here.

Awareness starts with meditation. You’ve mentioned that before? Does it have a place in this lesson?

As you may recall, I believe that meditation has a place in all of our daily lives. That said, not sure it applies here other than for folks to learn to take the time to get out of their own heads and try to see the world through the eyes of another person. From that they will get a better idea about the other person’s listening filters and see what needs to be provided to ensure clarity. Great comment!

Looking forward to details on what to say to make meaningful impact on another human’s life. Talk about how to instill and preserve trust. I wish the Gallup poll asked about therapy and counseling for life skills. Or maybe it did. Perhaps those workers (how much kinder to call them people) journaled to improve their ability to connect. First with yourself, then with others.

Not sure most people realize how poorly they communicate in a work environment. They say things that are clear to them and expect others to see it the same way. Change starts with awareness.
